Greeley Estates

Caveat Emptor EP

Since the first day I heard "Don't Look Away" on this years' Warped Tour compilation, I've been waiting for a proper release from Greeley Estates with drooling lips. The song, which is also included on this five-song EP "Caveat Emptor", has everything I love about emo/screamo. It has the semi-soared clean vocals during verses, a real guitar line instead of basic powerchords, highly polished and produced screaming supporting the clean vocals, holding a perfect balance between screaming and singing. I would love to say that the EP is worth buying just because of this track, but as the prices keep climbing up, I can't.

Other than the mentioned track, the EP drowns into the stream of a thousand similar bands. The song structures are too predictable to be original, and the elements of surprise and innovation are disregarded throughout the album. The Used, Saosin, Senses Fail, Boys Night Out, Emery... i could go on and on and on, there are just too many bands releasing records at this period in time who sound too much alike, and even though I like most of them, the listening experience doesn't quite compare to the truly unique bands like Coheed & Cambria or The Fall Of Troy.

Greeley Estates will one day be a band loved by many but hated by equally many, as they play clich? emo, the kind that all metalheads and hardcore fans will despise.

However, sometimes all you need is a hefty dose of scream/sing combination with simple guitars to fill your listening needs, and that's what "Caveat Emptor" is perfect for. It's too easy to predict what their full length will sound like.
