defenestration /dēˌfenəˈstrā sh ən/ -noun (formal): the action of throwing someone or something out of a window. Before you ask - yes, this is the name of the band and by god it's awful. Nonetheless i was kind of intrigued when i first received this album. Not only did it come with a nice cover (something i actually value quite a bit) but the lead singer of the band also turns out to be a girl. This really is a quality that I find missing on the modern metal scene. So with my curiosity more than just a little sparked i put the CD in my stereo and pressed play.

Opening with some standard guitar riffing which really didn't catch my attention but nonetheless still made a fair intro I found myself begging a little on the inside that I had hit gold. The feeling continued until about 12 seconds into the first song. This is where we first get introduced to the vocal range of lead singer Gen Tasker, and I will by all that's unholy be able to recall the remaining 20 minutes of the EP for the rest of my life. These minutes will forever be remembered as the only time in my life I profoundly wished I was deaf. It's extraordinarily remarkable that no one along the - often long - process it is to make an album took Gen Tasker aside and said "This is the deal honey: You couldn't hit a note if the faith of humanity counted on it - you're fired". I cannot come up with any other explanation than the entire band must be completely tone deaf since not a single one of them have noticed her utter and complete lack of talent. By God I would rather listen to children singing Christmas carols than this.

What goes for the rest of the music it continues as it started. Lots of riffs that really don't catch your attention until you get to an instrumental part where the band falls back on playing a really uninteresting riff for way too long. It's probably a lot of fun for the guys getting a groove going but for the listener, it's simply just too boring. Despite a few times where the band shows a little promise, most of the songs are just generic nu-metal and really not worth any further comment.

In conclusion this is by far one of the worst musical experiences I have ever had. I really tried to justify a higher grade as I really don't like being unnecessarily harsh. The only thing came up with is that the drumming is pretty tight and the production is okay. But in the end, it really can't change the fact that this is painful to listen to.
