The Dead Walk

The Acacia Strain is one of the new gems of the thriving Boston hardcore scene delivering unforgiving ear torment to hardcore and metal fans alike through ear-shattering, merciless breakdowns and bestial growls. "The Dead Walk" is their sophomore album after the critically acclaimed "3750" and is a step into the right direction.

The down-tuned guitars of "The Dead Walk" punish you with their downright heaviness but the occasional whizzes will reward the listener with a much needed glimpse into the almost non-existant structure the band has going on on most of the tracks. "Angry Mob Justice" stands out immediately both from lyrical and instrumental side. The vocals dwell just on the edge of understandable and nonsensical growling, making a perfect connection to a group of angry rioters who don't know what they are actually rioting about. It is also the only track with any even slightly recognizable elements that could be called choruses, verses or bridges. But that being said, the strenght of the album is exactly that - it is merciless and won't stop before your ears have been shattered into a million pieces without a chance of reconstruction.

"The Dead Walk" isn't for everyone. It's for those who enjoy that occasional 'break down a wall'-type of noisecore to release their aggressions. Although they don't threaten As I Lay Dying's position as the best hardcore band out there, they're still in the better half of hardcore bands out there. Oh, and they are Heavy as FUCK.
