Armagedon

Death Then Nothing

Armagedon formed in the late 80s in some small Polish city whose name I won't even attempt at spelling here, but yet their new album "Death Then Nothing" is only their second full length in that time. No, they didn't spend a decade and a half writing and recording, they simply went on hiatus and recently reformed for reasons unkown to us. Like a couple of my previous reviews, I'll keep this one short, because again, this is a band that plays its genre in a rather textbook manner, that one being Polish death metal.

Now, that doesn't necessarily mean it's generic or bad by any means, it's just terribly unsurprising from start to finish. You know what to expect to hear just around the corner the whole time; it's a package of standard serpentine death metal complemented by some fairly deep growls growls on top, i.e. exactly what you are to expect from your typical death metal outing. However, Armagedon occasionally splice orhcestral sections into their songs as well for some reason, these spacey symphonic sections feel a little out of place in their otherwise tight death metal standard. I suppose they add some variation, but not enough to warrant me rating this album much higher. There's better death metal out there, though collectors and fans of the more brutal brand of the genre played by the Poles should probably consider giving this a try.
