Resurrecting The Hostility

And you wonder why some releases take forever to review. When you have little more to offer for the avid music fan than generic tough guy hardcore dressed in a slightly more metallic fancy dress costume than usual, it appeals very little to a reviewer who is able to spend his time on so much more out there instead. Nonetheless, according to the Rockfreaks.net review policy everything sent to us will be reviewed fair and square, so I have to sit through Cause Of Revelation's hardcore mediocrity effort called "Resurrecting The Hostility" if for nothing else than to tell you not to waste your time.

That is, unless bands like Hatebreed, Terror and other 'tough-guy' hardcore bands are right up your sleeve. This is where Cause For Revelation draw about half of their inspirations from, the other half coming directly from the thrash metal scene, resulting in a nondescript mix between the two genres that really doesn't take the best qualities out of either one. The problem doesn't lie within the influences, as they are able to write solid material within this very genre and thus receive no complaints from my end. The problem is that Cause For Revelation share far too much in common with other pit-oriented stereotype/cliché-obsessed hardcore bands like Throwdown, and focus far too much on sounding brutal, bone-crushing etc instead of letting their riffs do all the damage. So in that context, even if you do love Hatebreed and Terror, the material here would barely make it to their C-sides album, as harsh as that may sound.

Unimaginative, uninspiring, unsurprising, flat out un-interesting tough guy hardcore like this just doesn't deserve your attention. I don't get any personal gratification on being an asshole to bands, but when Cause For Revelation make no attempt at deviating from the cliché-riddled formula, either consciously or subconsciously, I just don't have any other choice than to rate them average. Hardcore is a great genre, but this release is painstakingly average, if not less than that in reality.
