The Stradlins

The Stradlins EP

Stradlins are a lesser known punk outfit within the Copenhagen circuit. They play the odd show or two a year, and seldom participate in support slots for the regular bands. I'm guessing a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that Stradlins don't have much in common sound wise with the rest of the scene. While most Copenhagen bands rely either on pop punk or melodic hardcore to get their message across, Stradlins are more of a rock'n'roll band with punk undertones instead. So they stick out in a way that admittedly does make them appear a little bit unsuitable for many of these slots, however, that doesn't make their self-titled debut EP any less enjoyable.

Stradlins have two major things going for them: they know how to write memorable, attitude-fueled choruses. Secondly, they know how to write quirky rock'n'roll riffs that recall classic Southern Americana/rock. That they deliver these often at a high-octane pace is what pushes them across the punk boundary in my opinion as opposed to a straight up rock band like Supercharger, but that doesn't mean the songs aren't mad catchy. "Get Mad At Something Else" is an instant sing along, and "Antidote" has a high-pitch chorus that has me humming along it every time, too. In fact, out of the five tracks, one hundred percent had me tapping my feet, bobbing my head to the high tempo, or rocking out to the melodies and vocal harmonies within. Good stuff.
