Slide On Venus

Put Music To Your Troubles EP

I'm surprised my fellow scribe TL didn't snatch this one the moment it became available in our forum regarding new promotional copies to be reviewed, because Slide On Venus sports just the kind of frontman which tends to get his lips drooling: a pompous, slightly over-the-top type of alternative rock singer, whose ego probably couldn't fit in an entire mansion. His style is indeed quite similar to vocalists in a number of famous rock bands mostly from Great Britain, ranging from Lostprophets to Biffy Clyro and why not also Twin Atlantic, which is an extremely positive thing for two reasons: one, you're a very, very good vocalist technically, and two, there are millions and millions of people listening to these kind of bands always looking for the next big thing, so it's just about getting the ball rolling and the rest will take care of itself.

Me? I've always found all of these singers, including the one from Slide On Venus, to be a little too full of themselves to enjoy. That's essentially also my main problem with their EP "Put Music To Your Troubles", a catchy, simplistic alternative rock record that carries a similar emotionally charged meets indie rock vibe as albums by all bands mentioned so far in this review. Secondly, the five songs sound incredibly alike, as if they're written according to a formula. That being said, the formula is a very good one, resulting in catchy songs that'll charm anyone who is into the pompous vocalist thing from the get go.

In a nutshell, you can think of this French act as the bastard child of Lostprophets and Biffy Clyro, for so close is their sound to both of these bands. They might not have the flair or the skill of either band just yet, but "Put Music To Your Troubles" EP is a good indication of things to come. "House of Cards" is already mad catchy, so if they can write an album's worth of these, they'll be sure to gain quite a bit of popularity soon after.
