Still Around

Real Hate EP

Still Around is a brand new DIY hardcore unit out of Aalborg, Denmark. They're currently gearing up to release their debut EP called "Real Hate", a four track, five-minute unleash of raw, unpolished, and uncompromising old school hardcore. You might recognize Troels Sørensen of Mighty Midgets from the list of members, or his characteristic yell for that matter, which is occasionally used to give the record some intensity.

Whereas his main project concentrates on high-intensity melodic hardcore defined by its sheer explosiveness, Still Around instead opt for pummeling bass lines as the key ingredient of the sound. The production is much rawer - distinctly DIY I would say - leaving the guitar distortion razor-sharp and the gang vocals resonating with a nice echo on the background. The speed is manic, as you might imagine, and the overall expression leaves no-one doubting the old school hardcore punk genre tag. The songs have a good level of aggression and structure when it comes to basically three chord hardcore, but as I mentioned earlier, it's the bass lines that make "Real Hate" a record worth acquiring if you're into hardcore at all. It's decent, but it's a little too short to form a more thorough opinion of the band just yet.
