Harvest

Years of Defiance, Years of Disgust EP

Harvest were, in the nineties, one of the most promising bands in hardcore. They released two full length albums on Trustkill Records and numerous split EPs and 7 inches. Since their split in 1999, their members have moved on to form The Hope Conspiracy, Season of Fire and The Good Fight.

Upon their reformation the band are releasing "Years of Defiance, Years of Disgust". An EP with over a decade of inspiration behind it.

Clocking at just over eleven minutes the EP is pithy but none-the-less ponderous and almost reluctant. The tracks haul past hastily, pounding with experience and competency at a striking yet lethargic tempo. "Our Legacy" starts the EP with an impassioned exhibition of vocal potency which wanes into the final track "Conditioned", which ends with an empowered passage, but also a fatigued, languished howl which almost brings the Ep into redundancy.

Stylistically the band are reminiscent of their old sound, slow paced but punchy hardcore with stomping, dynamic drums and distorted vocals. Musically the EP is satisfying, bulky chordal sequences with thick breakdowns and a few intricate sections, the highlight being the exceptional bass introduction to "Soul Burn".

"Years of Defiance, Years of Experience" is an acceptable EP, but for a band of Harvest's age and experience, you wouldn't be mistaken for expecting something more.
