Promethee are out to prove that the Swiss, too, can slay when it comes to playing modern metalcore. They're based in Geneva, but yet they sound like a lot of their American/UK counterparts and certainly don't bring anything new to the saturated metalcore scene. Still, they demonstrate they are more than capable in the genre default requirements nonetheless. Generic one-chord breakdowns? Check, there are a few of them on "Promethee EP", yes. But the majority of the material is concentrated around astounding guitar melodies that are delivered at a frantic pace and designed to be as intense and in-your-face as melodic metalcore can be.

Sounds familiar? The Black Dahlia Murder comes to mind, as does Darkest Hour (in terms of the melodic scales and impressive leads), but that's not to say that Promethee sound exactly like either of the two bands. It's just that their precision-guided riffs are influenced by those bands, and that's not a bad thing, because it gives the overall sound a natural and a dynamic sound instead of the mechanical and 'fake' one that has been dominating in metalcore as of late. The songwriting, too, is at a higher level than your standard metalcore outfit, as evident in songs like "Sink Or Swim" and "Shipwreck", which both take full advantage of their two excellent guitarists in creating flowing guitar melodies that impress both by melody and by their technical flair. You can argue that the screamer is a little too anonymous to ever elevate Promethee to a much higher level than they currently are at, but that can be said about a lot of modern straight-up metalcore affairs which have been far more successful than I'd like to admit. If anything, "Promethee" EP proves that metalcore can also flourish outside of the US/British hotspots, and is a worthy record to check out for anyone into the, say, Rise Records roster or the mid 2000s Victory bands.
