Polair
Demo MMXI

Polair are a tiny four piece originating from Orleans, France, who have just released their debut demo "MMXI" to kick start their career. It's a fairly typical demo recording with questionable production and an almost total lack of identity, but that is to be expected so no need to criticize it further. The band's style ranges between standard metalcore and deathcore, bringing in the tapped melodic leads of the former and the pig sqeuals and perceived brutality of the latter.
There are only three tracks on the demo, of which opener "Courage" is the one that shows most promise. It has a slight leaning on that melodic brand of hardcore with huge gangshouts and anthemic melodies that's been popularized by the likes of The Ghost Inside lately, but with a distinct deathcore leaning. Pig squeals are used heavily on "There Is Nothing Personal In Your Dismemberment", alongside tapped leads, heavy breakdowns, and the usual stuff. It's all fairly generic and typical to the genre, and overall the demo feels very much like a first stab at writing music similar to their inspirations. It's not outright terrible, but much work is needed before Polair will start making waves within the European scene.
