Deathlike Thrash 'n' Roll

They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but sometimes the age-old idiom isn't true, such as in the case of Austria's Mosfet. A quick glance at the artwork will reveal the album title as "Deathlike Thrash & Roll", which is about as exact and accurate description of the music found within as any I'm able to come up with off the top of my head.

In other words, you're getting a mixture of death metal, thrash metal, and rock'n'roll all in one package. In this case, thrash metal is the most dominant force, but not by very much: neck-breaking death metal riffs introduce brutality to the mix, and the band often walks with a rock'n'roll swagger that's not usually found in metal bands. The speed and relative intensity of the riffing, however, indicates that Mosfet are thrash metallers at heart, and everything else comes as a close second. Destruction and Kreator have been an influence, and as such, you can pretty much expect to be banging your head first, worrying about quality second when listening to the album.

And herein lies its primary problem. For head banging, "Deathlike Thrash & Roll" provides plenty of opportune moments, whether it's the classic hair swirling or the more modern back-and-forth movement. The riffs pretty much take care of that alone. But for casual listening purposes, "Deathlike Thrash & Roll" is neither interesting nor memorable enough to stick out from a genre. It's a classic case of it's not too bad, but not too good either.
