No Such Noise!

Life Goes On EP

Nothing better to brighten up the cold winter days of Copenhagen than an EP's worth of bright, summery ska-punk played with high energy and a love for the classic melodies in the genre. No Such Noise! from New Jersey bring about just that on their debut EP "Life Goes On", which channels its Less Than Jake influence from circa-"Losing Streak" throughout to an extent where it's increasingly difficult to distinguish between the two bands.

That is, they maximize the amount of saxophone, trombone, and punk rock in their sound to produce the best kind of ska-punk: a vivid sound where the horns are in a lead role, paced by fast and melodic guitars throughout. They're a little less gritty than LTJ are sometimes, and instead offer a slightly more polished and pop punk oriented take on the 90s phenomenon, but they are almost equally catchy in places. Nonetheless, it's still easy to hear why Less Than Jake are as revered as they are: they are simply the best in the genre and No Such Noise! come up short in comparison, and here, the comparison is particularly stark considering how closely they resemble their idols.

That doesn't mean they aren't a good band, however, and given that this is their debut EP, they still have plenty of time to work on their songwriting. If a song like "Two Years & 25 Cents" is anything to go by, the ska punk fans will welcome a new entrant to the genre with open arms now and in the future as well. Catchy, high on horns and tempo...it's difficult to go wrong with that formula.
