Honour Crest

I think it's safe to say that if you enjoyed the recent package tour with Asking Alexandria at the forefront and all those other scene bands in tow, you'll find yourself right at home with Honour Crest and their latest record "Metrics". It's one of those super trendy metalcore releases that does all the things critics love to hate: obsession with electronic effects and dramatic synths (think Attack Attack!), techno sections, ravaging screams/growls, plenty of one-chord breakdowns, and effect-laden vocal modifications wherever possible.

Basically, the band have spent far more time on the computer producing the record and adding all sorts of weird effects to it than actually composing the music. Hence, the majority of the stuff you'll see live probably comes from a backing track while the band's simplistic instrumentation is left for the actual live members to take care of. Although, not quite. Even though I hate myself for saying this, Honour Crest aren't quite as bad as the notorious triple A (see the for the fans of section below). Their songs actually have a flow and a dynamic instead of either being copy/pasted together, consisting entirely of breakdowns only, or just being abominations to music in general. Yes, it's still veeeery scene and veeeery trendy in every possible way, but both "Flux", "Horcrux", and also "We Walked On Glass (For What Seemed Like Days)" sound pretty good even to the skeptic's ears. They are catchy, but at least the band hasn't gone overboard in adding cheese and shallow vocoder melodies on top of it, and opt for a more standard post-hardcore style clean vocal in combination of the electronics to make it sound catchy.

It's all very dramatic and theatrical at the same time, which means scene kids should be lapping this up like Winnie The Pooh does honey. And let's be honest here, it could be a lot fucking worse than this.
