Supergroups. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. The supergroup in question is Murder Construct, an American grindcore outfit featuring, among others, Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) and Leon Michael "del Muerte" Sandow (Exhumed, ex-Impaled, ex-Phobia, ex-Intronaut). Since the band's inception in 2001, nothing but a single EP from 2010 has been released, but in 2012 the group returned with their debut full-length, "Results".

Precisely 30 minutes of intense grindcore scattered across 11 tracks is what awaits on "Results". The axe work by del Muerte and Kevin "Fetus" Bernier is ferociously brutal and viciously fast, two features that Danny Walker's drumming reflects extremely well. During the first ten tracks, the music oozes unstoppable aggression, and with Travis Ryan's brutal growls and distinctly unique screams adding another layer of extremity to the mix, the music immediately overpowers all in its way. Album opener "Red All Over" represents the album well: it grips the listener tightly with instant aggression and doesn't let go until it ends abrubtly after two minutes.

But after 30 minutes, when the album has ended, I'm not feeling much of an urge to hit the replay button. In the album's short duration, the amount of variation presented is extremely scarce, and pretty much only album closer "Resultados" stands out with its slow, heavy outro making the song the longest on the album by far, clocking in at almost 7 minutes. The rest of the album is top-notch grindcore with no messing around, but while that's what some would prefer, I like a little experimentation in my grind. Nevertheless, as a short grindcore bludgeoning to the face, "Results" definitely gets the job done.
