Mindless Self Indulgence

How I Learned To Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence

Following a successful series of kickstarter donations, the obnoxiously immature dudes and chicks of Mindless Self Indulgence have been able to record and release their newest piece of vastly offensive and highly humoristic work onto the general public. With “How I learned To Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence” it seems that the band has taken an even bigger plunge into the general pool of politically incorrect statements, profoundly sexual metaphors and ingeniously vile verbal affinities and blended them with their unnervingly catchy and utterly self-indulgent musical soundscape.

As the album opens with singer Jimmy Urine screaming “SON OF A BITCH!” it is becoming increasingly evident that this, albeit not a sophisticated lyrical journey, will be highly entertaining and profoundly provocative. As their unusual blend of punk, hip-hop and electronic music quickly envelops me in a state of confusion I find myself chuckling quite a bit at the lyrical work as the highly ‘provocative’ lyrics have found their way into the very core of my highly immature being. In short, the line “Fuck everybody else, suck on my dick” has me giggling away like a goddamn twelve-year-old – needless to say I am utterly confused and slightly embarrassed, yet somehow I like the fact that a band has the ability to conjure forth a massive level of immaturity in their listeners, as this goes to show how much of an impact their music actually has. – Which is, in its own right, a scary thought.

With the introduction of the songs “Fuck Machine” and “Hey Tomorrow Fuck You and Your Friend Yesterday” the barrage of verbal abuse in all logical directions continues and has me at a total loss on how to go about this. I mean, the pounding rhythms, the highly insensitive lyrics and the hilarious approach to music has me on the edge of my chair in anticipation of what’s next and I do in fact seem to be highly entertained throughout, despite this not being anywhere near anything I would normally listen to.

So to sum up, I am finding the album “How I learned To Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence” extremely entertaining lyrically and somewhat catchy in the general songwriting area. Furthermore I must admit that the title is quite possibly the most fitting album title I have ever come across. I think this would be a unique concert experience to say the least, so I figure I’m gonna have to try that out sometime soon.
