Ex Friends

Twisted Around EP

Well this one's easy to call: if Rancid is your cup of tea, then Ex Friends' sophomore EP "Twisted Around" will be right up your alley as well. It's been a while since I've heard circa mid-90s Rancid emulated as closely as is the case here: everything from the raw punk rock spirit to the rowdy vocals of Joel Tannenbaum (of Plow United fame) says Rancid with a capital R.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing. In an era where polish and shiny production are the rule and not the exception, you need bands like Ex Friends reminding you what the original punk rock spirit was all about. Raw, energy-fuelled rebellion against authority, and picking up a couple of instruments and playing fast, catchy music with an attitude. All three marks are checked on "Twisted Around" EP, even if the record races by you breakneck speed in just 8 minutes spread across 5 songs. "Model Minority" is a circle pit friendly anthem, and "Punk Rock Wedding, Punk Rock Divorce" has a catchy sing along, and "West Chester Nuclear Winter" is just plain simple, but good straight up punk rock.
