Galactic Cannibal

We're Fucked

How's the rumble-and-roll style of Off With Their Heads treating you lately? Still as awesome as it has been ever since their debut "From The Bottom" five years ago? Then I've got relevant news for you, my friend, in the form of the hilariously named Galactic Cannibal from Milwaukee, whose debut album "We're Fucked" is exactly what you're looking for. Opting for a distinctly rawer and rowdier sound, the album is still primarily based in the same Midwestern simplicity of no-frills, no bullshit punk rock with roared vocal melodies layered on top to make things interesting.

From start to finish, the band roars and wallows through unpolished punk rock melodies that are ridiculously catchy despite their sharply ringing tone. Production values have been shoved aside, either on purpose or due to budget concerns, but that's the little edge that sets Galactic Cannibal apart from the rest of the Midwestern bands (Banner Pilot, The Flatliners, Dillinger Four etc), especially because it allows their vocalist's roar to have that razor-sharp edge that makes it feel like it's rolling in a turbo-charged steamroller towards you. And despite these simple elements and a roughened soundscape, they still manage to write songs like "We're Fucked", "Hate Everything More", " The Breath Before" or "Take It From Me Everything" that should be ideal for intimate basement size, sweaty singalongs.

Basically, "We're Fucked" has all the same ingredients as Off With Their Heads' debut album before that band blew up within the punk rock scene. If they continue to put together rowdy roaring, simple, but effective guitars, and fist-pumping melodies in this way in the future, look out for the next big thing in punk rock. Right now, just enjoy a tiny band who have written a hell of a debut record - rumbling to the store near you, I'm sure.
