Darkest Hour

Undoing Ruin

Amazing. That's the easiest way to describe "Undoing Ruin" by Darkest Hour. There are more hardcore bands popping out right now than flowers during the spring, but very few of them do it properly. And none of them do it like Darkest Hour on their fourth full length record. The moment you press play and "With A Thousand Words To Say But One" blasts through your stereo, you notice that there's something to this band. And by the time you reach the long, beautiful finishing track "Tranquil" (if this is their idea of what a tranquil song is like, then I'd like to hear what their noisy songs would sound like) you can only conclude that this album is a fucking masterpiece. It contains captivatingly aggressive and melodic hardcore ? la Atreyu/Avenged Sevenfold and imperative riffs that would make the usual Busted fan shit their pants worse than the kids in that famous South Park episode. The vocals are thrown up and screamed right on your face, and before you notice, they have sucked you right into their realm - one that consists of hardcore so harsh and aggressive but yet so melodic and stunning that you just can't resist listening to it over and over again. There isn't a single bad song on this album, and every song is a fucking masterpiece to put it mildly. A definite candidate for the album of the year together with Fastlane's "New Start".
