The Liquid

Atlas Interplan

The Liquid is a project by a Danish dude called Nicolaj Stockholm that has gotten widespread coverage in the national media for debut album "Atlas Interplan" thanks to a good promotional machine working behind the artist. Unfortunately for him the material he has compiled on the record does not match the marketing efforts, and we're left with flat retrospective rock album that toys with post-punk as much as it does with classic rock.

Throughout the record one mood is present which consistently manages to annoy this scribe: a purposeful echo to create a psychedelic effect, which is really only there to give it a 'hipster' rock vibe more than anything else. It feels like the whole soundscape is covered in smoke in a transparent effort to mask some of the lackluster songwriting that "Atlas Interplan" is plagued with. This is the type of band you'll see performing at a local bar and you don't think much about them other than they are background music. As I'm listening to this on a good pair of headphones the record seems bland and anonymous, with few memorable moments or reference points to latch onto. Just weird, hipster-oriented rock with little relevance stylistically in today's musical landscape, as you'll see from the bands mentioned in the for the fans of section below. It's not catchy, nor is it particular deep in its expression, so what you're left with is a term I don't often like to use about albums but there's no way around it in this case: boring.
