Murderofcrows

Gibbets EP

Murderofcrows is a tiny DIY hardcore band out of Gothenburg living the ideals of like-minded and equally ferocious hardcore bands Cancer Bats and Trash Talk, two bands which sound like they have been among the primary influences for their four track debut EP "Gibbets". This of course means you're presented a relentless, uncompromising take on hardcore punk that's less concerned with melody than it is putting your head through a cheese grater style treatment on every riff that'll sure leave you with a hurting neck if you're into headbanging at all.

This approach draws further parallels to the material with Gallows once Wade MacNeil replaced Frank Carter on vocals. It's a similar take-no-prisoners style that relies on abrasive, unfiltered rage as the vocals and ravaging guitar work that on occasion visits groovy riffage whenever the pace is slowed down somewhat from the d-beat style that's otherwise duly utilized throughout the record. The title track is key here, as it showcases ability to expand their take on hardcore musically from senseless pounding into something a little more atmospheric and nuanced. While the three other tracks aren't bad, per se, they need more identity than merely four crazy, destructive dudes tearing apart their instruments at lightning speeds. It's a decent debut, but still lags behind their much more accomplished international counterparts.
