Trashed Ambulance

Future Considerations

So if you put Teenage Bottlerocket, Lagwagon, Pkew Pkew Pkew, and No Use For A Name in the same band, you'll get something along the lines of Alberta, Canada's Trashed Ambulance (brilliant name, by the way). Essentially a combination of no-frills pop punk and late 90s melodicore, their third album "Future Considerations" is everything you want from a punk rock release. It's aggressively paced, yet light in its melodies, jam-packed with awesome riffs, and even features gang shouts for good measure. It's such a fun record to listen to and party to that it becomes addictive to the extent that you just want to hit repeat over and over again.

The best part about the album is how unapologetically it delivers tight pop punk. It's lighthearted, as demonstrated by the breakneck speed "Ecnalubma" and its punk community oriented "The shows played in a haze, singing along with you / So out of tune / Stories of our lives, power chords with all my friends (all my friends)" lyrics. The riff on this album is sick, much like on "Bottleneck", instantly drawing you into their fast-paced world. Here, slick bass lines complement an infectious chorus, albeit it is "Blip On The Radar" that takes home the pop punk trophy with its "Cause behind each cloud is a sky of blue, and this punk rock sound is what gets me through" punk scene type of sing along.

There's lots of variety on the record, too. "Gumshoes" is full of Pkew Pkew Pkew-inspired gang-shouted glory. "Menace" borrows from early Flatliners with its ska-esque vibes. "Stalk In The Park" injects female guest vocals by Punk Détente radio show host Emilie Plamondon, giving a lighter touch to the song. The lead riff here, by the way, rips.

But most importantly of all, "Future Considerations" is basically a beer-fuelled, infectiously catchy sing-along fest with great riffs both in the guitar and bass department throughout. I keep using the phrase fun record to listen to, but that's the vibe oozing off everything Trashed Ambulance does on this album. A must listen if you're into melodic no frills pop punk.
