Remember... You Must Die

After a brief foray into the nu-metal world on their self-titled album six years ago, Suicide Silence quickly returned to deathcore on 2020's "Become The Hunter". But it isn't until their seventh album "Remember... You Must Die" that the band hits the metaphorical hammer on the nail genre-wise. Here, the deathcore legends deliver another great example of how a genre as monstrously heavy and murderously chug-laden as this can still be surprisingly catchy overall.

Take "Capable Of Violence (N.F.W.)", for instance. Here, the "There is no fucking waaaay" screams add variety to the thick, guttural growls and thus open up the song into a catchy realm where few deathcore bands are usually found. Similarly, the brutalized "KNEEL, KNEEL, KNEEL" growls on "Alter Of Self" are instantly memorable upon first hearing them. The almost orchestral theatrics behind "God Be Damned" deliver also a rare point of melody on a track that's otherwise characterized by pummeled guitars and devastating breakdowns throughout. All are examples of Hernan 'Eddie' Hermida finally coming into his own as a Suicide Silence vocalist.

Elsewhere, a track like "Endless Dark" provides crazed riffage and thrash/death metal style soundscapes that briefly make you forget this is a deathcore band we're dealing with here. Still, it's the brutalized heaviness and the relentless chugging of the type that allows virtually fighting other people in the pit, that people look after in Suicide Silence. That is exactly what "Remember... You Must Die" delivers. It's a testosterone-fueled, gargantuan heavy effort of textbook deathcore with a few twists and turns to have enough variety to keep you clinging on throughout. Needless to say, this is exactly the album Suicide Silence fans want from the band.
