Telos

Delude

Telos has been a part of the Copenhagen-based underground scene for a while, but they've been quiet for a while. Their current lineup features members of bands like LLNN, Eyes, and Demersal, so as you might imagine, we're dealing with a gargantuan heavy, blackened hardcore outfit here. Their sophomore album "Delude" also offers mathcore and chaotic hardcore nuances within its brutal package.

Given their location and scene, it's unsurprising to find plenty of Scandinavian gloom in their soundscape. It's discordant, ugly, sludgy, and jarring, and presents itself in as raw and unadulterated way possible. The coarse screams and growls and thick and aggressive, while the instrumentals range from slowly creeping sludge to swirling insanity on songs like "I've Been Gone So Long". It's dark and menacing, and at times uncontrollable in its cacophonic delivery, yet during moments like "Never Me" it descends into structure through atmospheric tremolo shredding that draws eerie parallels to the black metal scene.

"Delude" is therefore not for the faint-hearted. Hints of melody are scattered here and there, but the band's primary urges are to unleash chaos and cacophony through strident and screeching mania with the occasional jangling riff scattered within. If you like your music uncompromising, blackened, and in-your-face aggressive, "Delude" is exactly what you're looking for.
