Best Albums Of 2011: The Psyke Project

author PP date 20/12/11

Everyone loves lists. They convey a great amount of interesting information in a quick glance. At this time of year, lists are in. Shopping lists, wish lists, guest lists, you name it. And of course lists that hopelessly try to summarize an entire year's worth of music from a wide variety of genres in a ranked order. The latter are what we here at Rockfreaks.net specialize in, usually receiving confused looks and voices of concern for our mental well-being once our opinions are out in public scrutiny. So we figured that in 2011, we'll ask some other people who might know better: a number of well-known and up-and-coming bands from the local scene. So in the coming weeks, you'll see a series of like-minded articles shaped as lists every couple of days as we go through the Danish music scene to discover what they thought were the ten best albums in 2011. Oh, and don't worry - you won't be cheated from our misguided and thinly veiled lists of favoritism either. Those are coming as well.

The next band we've decided to put on the spot are The Psyke Project, by many accounts the premier metal band in Denmark and arguably the most innovative and forward-thinking unit in the country. The band notably released a critically acclaimed split record called "Ebola" with fellow bruisers As We Fight earlier this year, which actually ended up on the TOP 10 list of By The Patient guitarist Simon, whose best of list we saw a couple of days ago. The band has elected guitarist Christian Bonnesen to represent the band with his bid for the best ten records released in 2011. Check it out below:

Christian's (The Psyke Project) Top 10

1. Cave In - White Silence

2. Dead In The Dirt - Fear

3. Terra Tenebrosa - The Tunnels

4. Self Defense Family - I'm Going Through Some Shit

5. Young Widows - In And Out Of Youth And Lightness

6. We Are The Damned - Holy Beast

7. Colony - Colony

8. Will Haven - Voir Dire

9. Akaname - Immanentize the Eschaton

10. Hexis - XI

(Yeah, i know Hexis is not out yet, but it's one of the perks screaming on it. Trust me, it's good)

Christian's Comment

Tough list to make because most of the music I've been digging and what we as a collective have been digging is not from this year. There are definitely some placeholders on this list, but as a whole, most of these picks have been listened to and enjoyed. Besides that I've been gobbling up everything that Deathwish Inc, has released. Those guys are killing it every time.

2011 has been quite an eventful year for The Psyke Project. We finally realized that being happy and playing music starts with ourselves. As a consequence to that we made a lot of changes that in retrospect were right. The future is uncertain for us, but we will do what we have always done. Play harder than ever, write music that we are proud of and keep on pushing the fact that we are a band that shouldn't be ignored.

2012 will probably kick ass in that regard.

Check back in a couple of days for the top 10 from another prominent Danish band, this time of a slightly less heavy sort.
