Pearl Jam unlikely to ever return to Roskilde

Danish readers can head over to Politiken's website to read extracts from an interview with Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Among other things, Vedder reveals that when the band played in Denmark for the first and only time since the accident that cost the lives of nine people on the festival in 2000, they had invited the families of the deceased to come backstage, and that was so hard to get through for him that he can't possibly imagine playing at Roskilde again. Beyond that, the singer also explains that he thinks the festival should have been doing more to prevent the incident, and that it is terrible to think that something like it had to happen for crowd security to be taken more seriously.

Here at Rockfreaks, we are of course sad to hear of such slim chances for the band's return, but while we have as much respect and regret for the terrible incident as the next person, we would probably not mind if Roskilde eased up on their "no fun at shows" policy again. After all, people are allowed to act a lot crazier in other festivals we've seen, and we have yet to see anyone walk away from those with more than a few bruises or a broken limb at worst.
